In recent years this has been a neglected method in part to is association with over sentimental portraits of children. Trevor has admirably exploited the range of possibilities with his expressive medium to extents not considered previously. He has pioneered the Australian Landscape in pastel with his "Life on the Land" series using a very simple, soft and fused touch which in no way over strains the medium. The Delicate interaction of the strokes can only be seen on closer inspection.
Again you can immediatley detect the Opray style, but this approach with Gouache has produced a very different feeling as to the other mediums.
The strokes are very definite and the colors are rich in tonal value, production a style towards the modern up market impressionable side.
Trevor Opray has refined and developed a unique style of watercolour, in giving a greater brilliance and luminosity to the Australian countryside. Most of "Oprays" major works have been done in watercolours, note his interest in proportion, colour and design, are always revealed in a series of loosely, but carefully applied washes. Trevors style is unique and his watercolours characterise the sensitivity of the artist
